The Mission

We seek to cultivate a neutral, intellectually honest space where people can explore artificial intelligence through an objective and multi-disciplinary lens. We aim to avoid reflexive hype or fear, instead anchoring conversation in observable reality.

Some Assumptions

• We have now created systems that can generalize and take part in human-like interactions via text, audio, and images.
• The algorithms underlying the above systems are demonstrably capable of generalizing into physical fields such as robotics, self-driving cars, and more.
• AI will continue to reshape how we interact with the world as its capabilities improve.
• The speed at which AI will improve, and the level to which it will improve, is a highly contested area of debate and research.
• AI is not a monolithic entity, but rather a collection of diverse technologies and systems which may eventually become or appear as a single entity.

Guiding Principles

• Reality. We follow data and anecdotes wherever they lead, acknowledging the good and the bad with equal weight.
• Context. We examine AI from many points of view, in an attempt to form a well-rounded understanding of the technology.
• Constructive Engagement. Good faith debate is welcome. Many ideas worth thinking about may be at odds with each other.
• Beginner-Expert Agnostic. We welcome anyone willing to engage with the topic constructively, providing a space for education and discussion, regardless of familiarity.
